Storm Line Check: Severe Weather Preparation

Summer storms in Ontario can roll in fast and hit hard. When high winds tear through the marina, the only thing keeping your vessel from smashing into the dock—or drifting loose entirely—is the integrity of your line setup.
Many boat owners live hours away or are stuck at work when severe weather alerts flash on their phones. This service exists to give you immediate peace of mind, knowing a professional has laid eyes on your boat, adjusted your lines, and buttoned down the hatches before the weather hits.

What This Service Is Designed to Do
This service is designed to safely prepare your slip configuration and vessel exterior for incoming rough weather. It solves the problem of improper tensioning, misplaced fenders, and forgotten open hatches that can lead to catastrophic dock strikes or water intrusion. Success realistically means your vessel is securely tied off, your hull is protected against surging water, and the boat is sealed against high wind loads.
How the Work Is Performed
We approach your slip and conduct a thorough physical inspection of all your storm and mooring lines. Our technicians manually adjust the length, angle, and tension of each line, verifying that the spacing is correct and the load is distributed evenly across your cleats.
We then adjust your fenders to the appropriate height to protect the hull from fluctuating water levels. Finally, we perform a complete exterior walk-around to verify that your canvas enclosure is fully zipped and buttoned up, and that all deck windows, hatches, and lockers are safely dogged down. If we identify critically worn lines or failing canvas, we notify you immediately.

What This Service Is Not Intended For
Honesty is our policy: The Storm Line Check ensures your boat is fully prepared for rough weather. We inspect, adjust, and secure your mooring lines to minimize movement and damage; This is strictly an inspection and securing service. It explicitly excludes the provision, purchase, or installation of new replacement lines or additional fenders.
We do not repair broken canvas zippers, stitch torn enclosures, or fix broken hatch latches. We cannot control the weather, and we cannot guarantee a boat will survive catastrophic storm events.
Finally, our availability to perform this check is strictly subject to safe marina access before the dangerous conditions arrive; we do not risk our crew during active severe weather.
Why This Level Matters
Leaving your boat unattended with loose lines or improper tension invites disaster. A single snapped line or a loose bow can cause thousands of dollars in fiberglass damage to your hull or your neighbor's boat. Having a professional catch line wear early and adjust your tension is the most cost-effective way to protect your physical asset during unpredictable seasons.

When This Level Is the Right Choice
This is the right choice when an extreme weather warning is inbound and you cannot make it to the marina yourself. It is also highly recommended if you are leaving your boat unattended for an extended period and want to ensure your slip configuration is dialed in securely.
When a Storm Line Check Is No Longer Enough
If our inspection reveals that your lines are completely rotted through, simply adjusting the ropes is no longer enough. At that point, the baseline shifts, signaling a need to purchase new marine-grade rigging. Alternatively, if your canvas enclosure is failing and flapping wildly under the wind load, you need an honest handoff to our Erect Canvas service to properly secure your vessel's weather protection before the wind shreds it.
Protecting your boat from a storm comes down to preparation and physics. We treat your mooring setup as a structural defense system, ensuring every line is working exactly as it should so you can breathe easier when the wind picks up.
