If You’ve Worked with Me Before, You Know These Rules Already

They’re not posted anywhere, but they’re consistent. Every quote I give — and every service I prescribe — runs through a few filters:

  1. If a mistake can’t be undone, price goes nonlinear.

Wet sanding, Level 5 polishing, laser paint removal — you only do these once, and you’d better get them right.

  1. Contamination isn’t all the same.

Dirt is one thing. Diesel film, mineral staining, adhesive bleed, mildew — these cross categories. Each one needs different tools and carries different risk. I price accordingly.

  1. Uncoordinated DIY adds cost.

I respect owners who maintain their own boats. I really do. But if you’ve already applied coatings or done spot repairs, I’m going to factor in the time it’ll take to decode what I’m walking into.

  1. If I’m afraid to walk away, the quote’s probably wrong.

If I can’t name a number that lets me say “no” if needed, then I’m not pricing the job right. I’d rather we both have that clarity up front.

And Just to Be Clear…

Booking online does not launch your service.

That’s planning — not deployment.

The Full Boat Assessment is what confirms or adjusts your request before any crew, chemicals, or equipment get scheduled.

What It Actually Is — And Isn’t

The Full Boat Assessment is booked as a two-hour max window. It costs $250 CAD, and yes — sometimes the hands-on part takes just 15 minutes. But what you’re paying for isn’t the clock. It’s the clarity.

That appointment includes:

  • Physical inspection — I look, touch, smell, and light it properly

  • Surface testing if something’s in question

  • Video walkthrough with commentary — you can replay or share it

  • A live or recorded Zoom review if you want to go over findings

  • And most importantly: a service plan and price that actually fits the boat you own right now — not the version of it from last season or a photo on your phone

Sometimes the job ends up simpler than you expected. Sometimes it’s more involved. But either way, we both know before anything gets scheduled, and that protects everyone’s time and outcome.

Same-day service isn’t available, and it shouldn’t be. A real marine service plan deserves more than a few clicks and crossed fingers.

Why This Matters (and Why I Want Your Feedback)

I’ve done this long enough to know that process matters more than polish. But I also know some of you might be wondering:

  • Could this be clearer?

  • Does this match your experience?

  • Do you feel respected and informed during this part of the process?

If you’ve had a Full Boat Assessment — or if you’ve walked away from one — I want to hear about it. What worked? What didn’t? What could improve?

This isn’t a formality. It’s the front door to how we work. And your feedback helps me build a better version of it, season after season.

All of our services are clearly detailed online and available for you to purchase at any time. I hope this blog makes it clear that same-day service is not an option — but same-day assessment often is. That’s the starting point. From there, we do it right.
