Hull Polish Level 3 : For the Love of Shine

A boat’s hull ages based on its exposure to UV rays, constant water friction, and daily marina usage. When a vessel spends multiple seasons in the elements without consistent protective care, the gelcoat system inevitably begins to break down. Moderate oxidation sets in, leaving a faded, milky appearance and visible scratches that basic maintenance polishing simply cannot touch.
Hull Polish Level 3 exists for exactly this condition.
It is a dedicated cut and shine service meant to actively correct the gelcoat before the damage becomes irreversible. We provide the extra effort required for a solid outcome, moving beyond basic care to provide real love to the surface.

What This Service Is Designed to Do
When light polishes and fast-cut single-stage compounds stop working, it means the degraded, oxidized layer of gelcoat is too thick for a basic approach. This service is designed to solve moderate oxidation and surface dullness through a multi-stage correction process.
Success at this level realistically looks like restored color depth, renewed clarity, and a uniform high-gloss finish that brings the hull back to life without requiring full restoration.
How the Work Is Performed
We approach this as a multi-step correction process that requires extra input for a solid outcome. Using high-powered professional buffing machines and foam polishing pads, our technicians perform an initial cut with a coarse compound to physically remove the moderately oxidized gelcoat layer and level out visible scratches. We then follow up with a fine polish. This second step provides a toning effect to the moderate exfoliation achieved like in Level 2, refining the finish to produce a clear, smooth gloss. A final buffing pass ensures uniform shine across the hull.
Will this service fix a completely chalky hull?
No, it will not. Hull Polish Level 3 addresses moderate oxidation. If the gelcoat is severely oxidized or chalky, it requires the aggressive, multi-stage correction of Hull Polish Level 4.

What This Service Is Not Intended For
Hull Polish Level 3 strictly excludes wet sanding, full gelcoat restoration, and structural repairs. We are not digging deeper into the gelcoat structure like we do in Level 4. There is absolutely no gelcoat reconstruction involved at this tier. If your hull has deep gouges from dock rash or completely compromised gelcoat, a machine polish will not safely level the damage.
Why This Level Matters
Leaving moderate oxidation untreated is a compounding problem. The longer dead gelcoat sits on the hull, the more porous the system becomes, inviting deeper moisture intrusion, stubborn staining, and accelerated UV damage. This level of correction halts that decay. It seals the hull system, protecting the underlying structural layers and saving you from much more invasive, extreme restoration costs later.
When This Level Is the Right Choice
This service is the right choice when your hull has a noticeably milky, faded appearance that obscures the original color. You will know it is time when the surface feels slightly dry or rough to the touch, and lighter seasonal maintenance no longer makes a visible difference.

When This Level Is No Longer Enough
When the gelcoat turns completely chalky, rubs off as a heavy white powder on your hand, or features deep scratches that catch your fingernail, this level is no longer enough. At that stage, the surface degradation has surpassed what a standard cut and shine can safely remove. That condition requires the intensive, aggressive correction of Hull Polish Level 4.
Maintaining your hull is about applying the exact right method for the current condition of the gelcoat. We believe in being transparent about what your boat actually needs, providing honest correction without unnecessary abrasion.
