Bottom Prep Level 4: The $1.2 Million Laser Solution

Opening In 2025, we successfully proved that Class 4 laser technology is the superior method for stripping bottom paint. We rented the gear, we did the work, and the results were undeniable.
But the reality of logistics has caught up with us. The lack of coordinated group bookings has made the rental model untenable for Spring 2026.
We are not interested in halfway measures. To deliver this revolution sustainably, we cannot rely on rentals. We require a dedicated, owned fleet. This service is now scheduled for deployment in August 2026, running through November, contingent on securing the necessary infrastructure. This is a transparent look at what it actually takes to bring this technology to Ontario’s boatyards.
What Bottom Prep Level 4 Is Designed to Do
This service is designed to solve the "paint fatigue" crisis—decades of built-up antifouling and the banned VC17 that currently coat thousands of hulls in our region. It resets the hull to virgin gelcoat without the toxic plume of sandblasting or the chemical sludge of stripping.
However, from a business perspective, this new Bottom Prep Level 4 is designed to operate at scale. It exists to process the sheer volume of boats that require complete bottom removal, a number that should frankly stun and challenge us all; every season until we are beyond the transition.
How the Work Is Performed
Execution at this level requires more than just a technician; it requires a mobile power plant. The 2026 deployment plan involves a $1.2 million investment to field a fully independent unit.
1. The Machine: We utilize a proprietary Class 4 laser system (retailing at $750,000) capable of vaporizing paint instantly.
2. The Infrastructure: This beast requires a dedicated 3-phase, 240-volt power supply.
3. Support Systems: A high-capacity air compression system provides critical laser cooling, while a specialized air cleaner/extractor ensures 100% containment of vaporized particulate.
4. Mobility: The entire rig is mounted in a custom vehicle with specialized suspension and security to transport this delicate, high-value asset directly to your cradle.

What This Service Is Not Intended For
This service is not intended for the "maybe next year" approach or scattered, last-minute bookings. The logistics of moving a $1.2 million setup require commitment and density. It is not intended for Spring 2026 launch prep—that window has closed due to community hesitation. We are now focused entirely on the late-summer and fall 2026 window.
Why This Level Matters
The community hesitated, and the rental option vanished. Now, we face a choice. The environmental regulations are tightening, and the old methods of grinding and blasting are becoming liabilities for marinas. Level 4 matters because it is the only future-proof method for hull maintenance. It protects the groundwater, the technicians, and the hull integrity.
When This Level Is the Right Choice
This is the right choice for owners—and investors—who understand the scale of the problem.
• For Owners: If you plan to haul out in August 2026 or later and want a complete reset.
• For Partners: If you see the thousands of boats needing this service and understand the barrier to entry is equipment ownership, not demand.

When This Level Is No Longer Enough
The laser is a cleaning tool, not a magic wand for structural repair. If the laser reveals osmosis blisters (which were hiding under the paint), Level 4 stops. At that point, you move to blister remediation and fiberglass repair. We strip the canvas; we do not weave it.
Spike is ready to make this happen, but we are done waiting for the rental market to align with our standards.
We are moving toward ownership to guarantee availability and quality. If you are a boat owner tired of the old ways, or a financing partner looking to be part of the only viable solution for mass hull restoration, let’s talk.
