I Would Build the First Five Spike’s Marine Stations,
One for Each Great Lake
(Canada Side Only)
If I had $50 million, I would launch the first five Spike’s Marine Stations, strategically placed on the Canadian shores of the Great Lakes. These floating hubs would be centres for sustainability, marine services, and community connection, ensuring that Canada leads the way in eco-conscious boating and water conservation.
This vision isn’t just about boaters—it’s about protecting freshwater resources, creating jobs, and building a future where marine technology and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.
Where Would They Be? The Five Stations Across Canada’s Great Lakes

Each Spike’s Marine Station would be uniquely tailored to its location, addressing local environmental concerns, marine industry needs, and community engagement.
1. Lake Ontario – Toronto, Ontario
🏙 The Gateway Hub for Sustainable Boating
Toronto’s bustling waterfront makes it the perfect home for the first Spike’s Marine Station. This station would:
✅ Host a VR Friendship Centre, honouring Indigenous water protectors
✅ Feature a Water Lab, testing for pollutants and educating boaters
✅ Offer a Marine Stock Shop, supplying eco-friendly products
✅ Provide a zero-waste Boat Wash, reducing harmful runoffs into the lake
With Toronto as the flagship location, this station would serve as the model for expanding across the Great Lakes.
2. Lake Erie – Port Dover, Ontario
⚓ A Hub for Clean Water and Coastal Boating
Lake Erie has been severely impacted by algal blooms and pollution. A Spike’s Marine Station here would focus on:
🌊 Water conservation initiatives, including on-site water testing
🌊 Educational programs for local boaters to prevent fuel and waste spills
🌊 Sustainable marina practices, ensuring local harbours stay clean
Port Dover is the ideal location, sitting in the heart of Ontario’s southern boating community.
3. Lake Huron – Georgian Bay, Ontario

🌲 Protecting Canada’s Boating Paradise
Georgian Bay is known for its crystal-clear waters, rugged landscapes, and remote boating destinations. To preserve this natural beauty, Spike’s Marine Station here would:
🔹 Feature aquaponic gardens, showcasing sustainable food production
🔹 Serve as a knowledge hub for boaters on fuel efficiency and waste management
🔹 Support remote communities by offering water testing and eco-conscious marine services
This station would serve both seasonal cruisers and local communities dependent on healthy water systems.
4. Lake Superior – Thunder Bay, Ontario

🌊 Canada’s Cold-Water Boating and Research Hub
Lake Superior is the largest and most untouched of the Great Lakes, but it faces unique challenges, from climate change to Indigenous water rights. This Spike’s Marine Station would:
❄ Provide cold-water safety training for remote and northern boaters
❄ Serve as a climate change research centre, monitoring Superior’s changing conditions
❄ Partner with Indigenous communities, integrating traditional ecological knowledge
Superior is Canada’s wildest, most unpredictable Great Lake, making this station essential for safe and sustainable navigation.
5. Lake Michigan-Huron (Lake St. Clair) – Sarnia, Ontario
🚢 Industry Meets Innovation in Canada’s Marine Service Hub
Lake St. Clair, nestled between Lake Huron and Lake Erie, is one of Canada’s busiest boating regions. This station would:
⚙ Provide rapid-response eco-services for marine industry professionals
⚙ Offer marine apprenticeships, training the next generation of skilled tradespeople
⚙ Showcase AI-driven boat maintenance technology, making servicing more efficient
With Sarnia’s longstanding history as a marine and trade hub, this station would serve as a bridge between recreational boating and commercial marine industries.
Why This Matters for Canada
These five Spike’s Marine Stations wouldn’t just enhance the boating experience—they would:
🇨🇦 Protect Canada’s freshwater resources for future generations
🇨🇦 Create sustainable jobs in marine trades and conservation
🇨🇦 Position Canada as a leader in eco-conscious boating practices
🇨🇦 Strengthen Indigenous partnerships, honouring traditional water stewardship
The Next Step: Making This Vision a Reality
While $50 million would get this project off the ground, it’s going to take a collective effort to bring it to life. Investors, environmentalists, boaters, and local communities can all play a role in making Canada’s Great Lakes the global standard for sustainable boating.
