What This Service Is Designed to Do


This service is designed to revive, protect, and extend the life of exposed boat wood surfaces, including teak decks, handrails, toe rails, trim, steps, and caps. It solves the problems of grey, weathered teak, peeling varnish, uneven coloration, and raised grain.

Success here looks like bare, healthy wood safely exposed, properly leveled, and securely sealed with fresh protection.

How the Work Is Performed Because every piece of wood ages differently, we treat exterior refinishing as a modular, step-by-step process.


1. Deep Cleaning & Stripping: We extract embedded salt and contamination. Depending on the existing finish, we utilize controlled chemical strippers or physical removal to take off failing varnish and coatings.


2. The Sanding: We use powered sanders for broad areas and painstaking manual sanding for intricate trim, handrails, and toe rails to ensure the wood is smooth without altering its original profile.


3. Application of Protection: We wash the raw wood out and let it dry completely. Once dry, we build a resilient seal by applying fresh marine-grade protection in successive layers to guard against UV and moisture.



What This Service Is Not Intended For


Our expertise is in surface preservation, not shipwright carpentry. This service is explicitly excluded from structural wood repairs, rot remediation, or replacing missing fasteners. If your wood is spongy, deeply rotted, or structurally compromised, sanding and varnishing will not save it; it requires physical replacement.


Furthermore, we do not apply specialty coatings outside of proven marine-grade oils and varnishes unless explicitly quoted.

When This Level Is No Longer Enough


If the wood is completely saturated with rot, or if previous heavy-handed sanding has worn the teak down so far that the deck screws or bungs are exposed and falling out, surface refinishing is no longer a viable option. At that stage, cosmetic work must stop, and you require a marine carpenter to mill and install new wood.
